Extracurricular Student Activities

There are a wide variety of extracurricular activities that Springfield Elementary students may participate in throughout the year. These are not S.E.P.T.A.-sponsored events, but are listed as a convenient reference for you. We have tried our best to represent all information as accurately as possible. Please contact S.E.P.T.A. for any additions or modifications to this list.

Sports

These athletic activities combine students from all three Palisades Elementary schools.

Palisades Pirates Youth Football and Cheerleading (www.ppyf.com)
The Palisades Pirates Youth Football Association (PPYF) was established in 1998 to give boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 13 an opportunity to learn football and cheerleading in a supportive and fun environment. The association is part of the Pop-Warner program and stresses the importance of academics in addition to athletics. We are committed to having a great time developing the young athletes of our area; enriching the children's lives and creating a foundation for the high school and middle school football and cheerleading programs. Registration is held on select dates at the end of April for the upcoming season. Practices begin early August, holding 4 practices per week (M-Th). Once the school year begins, the practices change to twice per week and games are generally on the weekends.

Wrestling/cheerleading
Palisades Youth Wrestling Association (PYWA) was founded to promote a youth wrestling and cheerleading program by combining teaching, training and supervision of the ideals of sportsmanship, teamwork, scholarship and development of good character. Open to all youth living within the Palisades School District, Kindergarten through 6th grade. Sign up is late September/early October. Please email [email protected] or contact Eric Gretzinger, PYWA President at 610-847-8542 or Fred Albe, PYWA Vice President at 610-847-2321 with questions.

Summer Programs

Summer Rec Program
The Summer Rec Program runs Mondays through Thursdays from 9 am until noon from July 14th through August 7th. It is available to children ages 5 through 12, entering Kindergarten through 6th grade in the fall. We will be holding the Summer Recreation Program at Palisades at the Durham Nockamixon Elementary School. In past years, children have participated in a variety of activities including tennis, karate, crafts, outdoor games, cake decorating, gymnastics, hip hop, magic, making tye dye items and much more! Children are grouped by age so all activities are age appropriate. Certified teachers with the help of assistants guide each group and a nurse is on site at all times. To register, please visit www.palisadessd.org and click on Community for the link to the registration form or call Donna Holmes at our Community Relations Office at 610-847-5131, ext. 2401.

Palisades Soccer Club T-Shirt Program (www.pysanet.com)
The intramural (T-Shirt) program provides an opportunity for children to learn good sportsmanship and the fundamentals of soccer in a fun, non-competitive environment where everyone gets equal playing time. It is offered to entering Kindergarten students and older. Registration for the T-Shirt program takes place on select dates starting in early March. The T-shirt season begins at the end of June, holding two practices/games per week, and goes through mid-August.
